Join Our Green Initiative

A message from Rebecca, owner of Swinney Wood Log Cabins

Our ethos has always been to embrace the beauty of nature and create a true sense of home within the woodland. Thanks to our Plant a Tree initiative, we have already planted close to 1,000 trees here.

As someone who has always felt most alive among the trees, I wanted to make a meaningful contribution to a greener future. Alongside our own tree planting, I have partnered with Utility Warehouse.

Why? It’s simple: they are the UK’s greenest energy supplier, and their ethos matches ours. They have already planted more than 174,000 trees, with one planted for every new customer.

To reflect this, I pledge that for every new customer who joins Utility Warehouse through me, I will also plant a tree locally at Swinney Wood. Together, this creates a double impact: reforestation across the UK and the continued growth of our woodland.

Reducing your household bills and services can significantly help the environment. If you’d like me to explore how much you could save — and join our Green Initiative — please contact me at [email protected].

Our vision is a UK thriving with native woods and trees, enriching the lives of both wildlife and people. Join us in our mission to plant trees, protect woodlands, and inspire others to appreciate the wonders of nature.

At Swinney Wood, we have:

  • Planted close to 1,000 native trees to combat climate change and encourage wildlife.
  • Planted more than 1,500 hedging plants, attracting birds and providing ideal nesting sites, particularly for songbirds like blackbirds and thrushes, which enjoy singing from the hedge tops.
  • Installed numerous bird and bat boxes, owl and bird of prey nesting boxes, bug and butterfly houses, and bird feeders throughout the woodland.

The Challenges Faced by Woodlands

The Challenges Faced by Woodlands
Woodlands, wildlife, and the broader environment face increasing threats. Trees and woods must contend with a challenging mix of pressures, including:

  • Climate change
  • Inappropriate development
  • Pollution
  • Expanding populations in once-rural areas
  • Attacks from deadly tree diseases and pests

Ancient woods and trees, in particular, are among our most precious natural assets. They are irreplaceable and home to many vulnerable and endangered species.

Our Plant a Tree Initiative

With this in mind, we created our Plant a Tree initiative—an open invitation for you to make a lasting impact.

Your participation is simple yet profoundly meaningful. A donation of £5 ensures a tree will be planted in our cherished woodland, and there’s no limit to the contributions you can make. Every additional tree strengthens the fabric of our environment, weaving a future where our woodland thrives for generations to come.

Each winter, as the cool air settles over Swinney Wood, we embark on our tree-planting week—a time when new life is sown into the frost-touched soil.

The saplings, funded by your generous donations, take root in our woodland, beginning a journey that will see them mature into majestic trees, providing shelter and sustenance to forest inhabitants while capturing carbon from the atmosphere.

Thank you for embracing the opportunity to be part of something truly meaningful and lasting.

You can make your donation and plant a tree either at the time of booking or later using the payment link provided in your email confirmation.

Together, let’s plant seeds of hope, nurture growth, and ensure the continuity of Swinney Wood’s natural beauty for generations to come.
